My work interprets a domestic interior.

It is born of a desire to carve out time and space for my art practice from a life with a young family, fraught with multiple identities—the Tetris game of family life. Surrounded by stuff, children and chaos, here on paper I can stack, order, control. Tessellation is a way to make good, a hectic existence.

Paper is magical stuff – an ancient technology. It exists firmly in the domestic – a throwaway material.  The process of drawing on paper with a knife makes my line invisible. In essence, I’m removing material piece by piece to reveal the work of art, the paper becomes the 3 dimensional thing. More than a surface, it is the artwork.

Inviting close inspection, the viewers’ examination mimics the concentration of my own process. Geometry and a steady hand elevate the humble sheet of paper to a different dimension.
